Job Overview

Our client is seeking a precision-oriented Flooring Shop Drawing Drafter (AutoCAD) to join their project team on a part-time remote basis. In this role, you will take the lead on backend drafting operations for diverse commercial flooring projects, including corporate interiors, multifamily residential complexes, and healthcare facilities. Your primary mission is to transform raw, complex architectural plans into highly accurate, scaled 2D flooring shop drawings. This position is ideal for a self-sufficient drafting professional who can independently isolate structural layouts, cross-reference manufacturing specifications, and ensure that installation teams have flawless documentation.

Schedule Monday - Thursday, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST (20 hours per week) Note: Shift times are strategically aligned with US East Coast business hours.

Responsibilities

• 2D Drafting Production: Produce accurate, scaled 2D commercial flooring shop drawings using AutoCAD based on architect-provided blueprints.
• Plan Initialization & Clean-up: Clean up, strip, and filter raw PDF or DWG architectural files to isolate core walls, structural columns, and specific floor layouts.
• Specification Transfer: Replicate precise architectural guidelines, finishes, and technical schedules onto proprietary title blocks.
• Product Dimension Research: Conduct online research to verify commercial flooring product dimensions, pattern repeats, and manufacturer specifications (e.g., carpet tile, resilient flooring, LVT, sheet vinyl, and ceramic tile).
• Project Team Collaboration: Coordinate closely with project managers and estimators to ensure all drafted layouts seamlessly align with real-world site conditions and contract requirements.
• Standardization Control: Maintain strict consistency in drawing standards, layering protocols, annotation styles, scales, and layouts across multiple active projects.

Requirements

• Technical Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and extensive experience manipulating PDF or vector-based architectural drawings.
• Blueprint Interpretation: A solid, intuitive understanding of 2D drafting principles, structural symbols, and complex commercial floor plan interpretation.
• Industry Experience: Proven track record producing submittal-ready shop drawings or equivalent detailed construction documentation.
• Precision Layout Skills: High level of mathematical accuracy and attention to detail when working with scaled layouts, architectural dimensions, and product intersections.
• Autonomy & Workflow Control: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple drawings simultaneously and work independently under minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Previous experience drafting specifically for finishes, flooring, tiling, or interior fit-outs is highly regarded.
• Familiarity with commercial building codes and standard architectural submission workflows.
• Reliable, high-performance computer hardware capable of rendering complex AutoCAD files seamlessly, paired with a high-speed internet infrastructure.
