Our client is looking for a 3D Mechanical Design Draftsperson to transform general arrangement drawings into detailed fabrication and assembly drawings for complex pump systems, diesel engine fire skids, and water infrastructure projects. Working closely with senior mechanical engineers, you will play a critical role in supporting the company's rapid growth by producing accurate, scalable technical drawings that meet consulting engineer requirements and strict project timelines. Client Overview

Our client is a well-established manufacturing company with over 50 years of experience in the pump and water systems industry. They serve clients across Australia and internationally, including major mining organizations and consulting engineers. The company is experiencing consistent double-digit growth year over year and operates nationwide with expanding global reach into markets such as Africa, Canada, Fiji, and Kazakhstan.

Schedule

• Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM ACST(40 hours per week)

Responsibilities

• Detailed Technical Drafting: Develop detailed fabrication and assembly drawings from general arrangement (GA) drawings provided by the engineering team.
• 3D & 2D CAD Design: Create and modify 3D CAD drawings using Onshape for complex pump skids, diesel engine assemblies, fuel tanks, exhausts, piping systems, and gauges. Produce 2D AutoCAD site-specific drawings for civil engineering applications, ensuring accurate scaling and dimensioning.
• Drawing Modifications: Modify existing drawings from the company's technical library based on redline markups and project-specific requirements.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the senior mechanical engineer and production team to ensure drawings meet fabrication and assembly standards.
• Feedback Integration: Respond to consulting engineer feedback and incorporate changes within tight project timelines (typically 2–4 weeks from purchase order to GA delivery).
• Quality & Accuracy: Maintain drawing accuracy and quality standards for projects serving major mining clients, including BHP and Fortescue.
• Production Support: Support both sales-focused conceptual drawings and detailed shop floor fabrication drawings.

Requirements

• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in 3D AutoCAD with demonstrated engineering design experience.
• Formal Qualifications: Formal drafting qualification or equivalent technical certification.
• Drafting Expertise: Experience creating fabrication and assembly drawings from general arrangement drawings.
• Engineering Principles: Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
• Execution & Detail: Ability to work independently and deliver accurate technical drawings under tight deadlines with high attention to detail.
• Work Setup: Reliable internet connection and ability to work remotely during Australian Central Standard Time hours.

Qualifications

• Experience with Onshape (cloud-based CAD software), SolidWorks, or similar 3D modeling platforms is a plus.
• Mining industry experience or exposure to mining equipment design.
• Prior experience working for Australian, American, or European engineering companies.
• Experience with pump systems, diesel engines, or water infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with consulting engineer requirements and civil engineering drawing standards.
