Solar Plan Designer / Permit Specialist (SolarGraph, Helioscope)

Solar Plan Designer / Permit Specialist | Solar & Battery Installation | Remote

Role Name: Solar Plan Designer / Permit Specialist

Schedule: 4-6 hours, start time 8am

Client Timezone: PST

Client overview

A growing US-based solar and battery installation company, this business handles a high volume of residential and commercial clean energy projects across the Los Angeles area — with significant demand driven by ongoing post-fire rebuilding activity. Their operations span the full project lifecycle, from design and permitting through to installation, and they work closely with licensed California engineering firms to ensure every plan is code-compliant and permit-ready. The team is expanding its remote talent base to meet an accelerating project pipeline on the LA west side and Palisades corridors.

Job description

You will be the critical link between approved projects and construction-ready, fully permitted solar system plans. Leveraging industry-leading design software, you will create precise residential and commercial solar layouts, assemble complete permit packages in compliance with California regulations, and coordinate directly with engineering firms to secure the stamps needed for submission. You will keep documentation organized and workflows on track — enabling projects to move from design to groundbreaking without delay — and contribute meaningfully to one of the most active solar rebuilding markets in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Design solar system plans using SolarGraph and/or Helioscope for residential and commercial projects
  • Prepare and submit complete permit packages in compliance with California regulations
  • Coordinate with engineering firms to obtain valid California engineering stamps on plans
  • Ensure all designs account for new construction sequencing and site-specific requirements
  • Maintain organized documentation to support smooth permitting workflows

Must-have requirements

  • Experience designing solar system layouts using industry-standard design software
  • Knowledge of California permitting processes and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Ability to coordinate with third-party engineering firms for plan review and stamping
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to regulatory detail
  • Effective written communication skills for permit submissions and engineering coordination

Nice-to-have requirements

  • Bonus if you have hands-on experience with LA County, City of Los Angeles, or west-side jurisdiction permitting portals
  • It helps if you have prior exposure to post-fire or new construction solar projects
  • Bonus if you are proficient in both SolarGraph and Helioscope platforms

Why join this team

  • 100% remote engagement — work from anywhere during Pacific Time business hours
  • High-demand pipeline with consistent, volume-driven workload fueled by LA rebuilding activity
  • Work on technically complex and meaningful projects contributing to community recovery and renewable energy growth
  • Collaborative environment with engineering firm partnerships and a well-structured permitting workflow
  • Long-term engagement opportunity in one of the fastest-growing solar markets in the United States
