Client Overview

Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Draftsperson to support their cabinetry, joinery, and shopfront drafting requirements. The role will focus on converting existing design and technical drawings into accurate, production-ready CAD files suitable for CNC manufacturing.

This is a hands-on drafting position suited to an experienced CAD professional who understands manufacturing requirements, can interpret technical drawings accurately, and is comfortable working independently to meet project deadlines.

Job Description

You will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed CAD drawings for cabinetry, joinery, shopfront, and related manufacturing projects. Working from existing drawings, plans, and project specifications, you will translate designs into precise production-ready technical drawings suitable for CNC fabrication.

The ideal candidate has strong AutoCAD skills and proven experience working with manufacturing or construction drawings. Experience with Pytha 24 is critical for this role.

This is a part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week, with working hours arranged within the client's Sydney business hours. There is potential for the role to expand depending on workload and business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Convert cabinetry, joinery, shopfront, and related drawings into accurate CAD files
  • Prepare detailed technical drawings suitable for CNC production
  • Interpret design plans, specifications, and existing drawings and translate them into production-ready documentation
  • Create, modify, and update CAD drawings based on project requirements
  • Ensure drawings meet required dimensions, specifications, and manufacturing standards
  • Produce accurate and detailed drawings that can be used directly within production workflows
  • Collaborate with the team to clarify drawing requirements and incorporate revisions
  • Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and potential production issues
  • Organise and maintain CAD files and project documentation
  • Manage multiple drafting tasks while meeting agreed deadlines and turnaround requirements
  • Work independently while communicating clearly regarding project requirements, revisions, and potential issues

Must-Have Requirements

  • Proven experience as a CAD Draftsperson, Drafting Technician, or similar role
  • Strong hands-on experience using AutoCAD
  • Critical: Proven experience using Pytha 24
  • Experience producing drawings for cabinetry, joinery, shop-fitting, shopfronts, or similar manufacturing/construction environments
  • Strong understanding of CNC-ready drawings and manufacturing workflows
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications accurately
  • Ability to translate design concepts and existing drawings into precise production-ready CAD files
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to consistently meet project deadlines and required drawing turnaround times

Nice-to-Have Requirements

  • Experience preparing drawings specifically for CNC manufacturing
  • Experience working within cabinetry or joinery production environments
  • Familiarity with shop-fitting or commercial fit-out projects
  • Experience managing multiple drafting projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of manufacturing tolerances, materials, dimensions, and construction methods
  • Experience working with remote teams and project-based workflows

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced CAD Draftsperson who combines strong technical drafting skills with practical knowledge of manufacturing and production requirements. You should be highly proficient in AutoCAD, experienced with Pytha 24, and comfortable producing precise drawings that can move directly from design into CNC production.

You should also be detail-oriented, reliable, and capable of working independently while maintaining clear communication with the team throughout the drafting process.
