AU HR & Payroll Advisor

Job Overview

Our client is seeking a highly capable AU HR & Payroll Advisor with a strong generalist HR background and hands-on Australian payroll expertise. In this dual-function role, you will lead end-to-end recruitment, manage employment contracts, navigate Fair Work Act compliance, and execute weekly/fortnightly payroll reconciliations across modern awards. This role is ideal for a seasoned HR professional who can confidently advise operational managers on performance and employee relations while maintaining audit-ready payroll and compliance records.

Client Overview

Our client is an established Australian commercial group based in Eagle Farm, Queensland. Operating across technical and operational sectors, they are expanding their remote back-office operations and require a comprehensive HR & Payroll Advisor to oversee the complete employee lifecycle, award interpretations, end-to-end payroll runs, and workplace compliance.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM AEST, with 30 minutes paid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

Human Resources & Employee Lifecycle

  • Execute end-to-end recruitment, candidate screening, onboarding, and offboarding workflows.
  • Prepare compliant employment contracts, position descriptions, variation letters, and onboarding documentation.
  • Coordinate apprenticeship records, Registered Training Organization (RTO) compliance, and employee training tracking.
  • Oversee performance review frameworks, goal-setting initiatives, and staff development plans.
  • Monitor Australian legislative updates to maintain up-to-date workplace policies and HR procedures.

End-to-End Payroll & Compliance

  • Process end-to-end payroll runs, reconciliations, and financial reporting across HRIS/payroll software.
  • Interpret Modern Awards, enterprise agreements, and individual flexibility arrangements to calculate correct base wages, allowances, penalties, and leave entitlements.
  • Ensure full compliance with Single Touch Payroll (STP), superannuation guarantees, payroll tax, and leave reporting.
  • Resolve employee payroll inquiries promptly and maintain total data integrity across business systems.

Employee Relations & Governance

  • Act as the primary contact for employee relations, guiding operational managers through performance issues, grievances, and workplace concerns.
  • Lead workplace investigations ensuring procedural fairness, and draft official warnings and outcome documentation.
  • Support Quality, Environmental, and Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) compliance protocols.
  • Conduct manager training on HR platform features, policies, and management workflows.

Requirements

  • Dual HR & Payroll Background: Proven experience operating as an HR Advisor with direct hands-on responsibility for processing end-to-end Australian payroll.
  • Australian Legislative Expertise: Solid knowledge of the Fair Work Act, Modern Award interpretation, STP, superannuation, and Queensland payroll tax rules.
  • Employee Relations Experience: Demonstrated capability in managing workplace investigations, performance management plans, grievances, and corrective action documentation.
  • Software Capability: Proficiency using cloud-based HRIS/payroll tools (e.g., Employment Hero, Xero, MYOB) and intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills.
  • Communication & Discretion: Exceptional written and spoken English with strong coaching abilities and high ethical discretion.
