U.S. Tax Accountant (Drake Tax & QuickBooks Online)

Overview

Our client is looking for a  U.S. Tax Accountant (Drake Tax & QuickBooks Online) with strong bookkeeping fundamentals, advanced working knowledge of QuickBooks Online, and hands-on experience preparing Form 1120S business tax returns directly in Drake Tax Software. This is not a basic data-entry role. The successful candidate must be able to review financial information critically, recognize when transactions or balances do not make sense, investigate discrepancies, and use prior-year information to determine whether current entries are reasonable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Form 1120S business tax returns directly in Drake Tax Software
  • Perform tax data entry while applying accounting and tax knowledge to validate information
  • Review and reconcile client bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Navigate and troubleshoot QBO independently, including accounts and transactions that may not be connected through bank feeds
  • Review current financial activity against prior-year information and identify unusual or inconsistent transactions
  • Investigate discrepancies rather than simply categorizing or processing transactions
  • Verify that tax entries and financial information are reasonable and properly supported
  • Communicate questions, discrepancies, and potential accounting issues clearly to the team
  • Follow established workflows while exercising appropriate accounting judgment
  • Maintain accuracy and meet deadlines during peak tax periods

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience preparing Form 1120S returns in Drake Tax Software is required
  • Demonstrated experience working directly within Drake Tax, rather than primarily preparing spreadsheets for import
  • Strong practical knowledge of QuickBooks Online
  • Solid intermediate-level U.S. bookkeeping/accounting knowledge
  • Ability to analyze transactions and financial reports and recognize when information does not align with historical activity
  • Ability to independently investigate bookkeeping discrepancies and unusual transactions
  • Strong attention to detail and accounting judgment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Reliable internet connection and professional home office
