Job Overview
Our client is looking for a Business Analyst / Project Manager to run client engagements from first conversation to ongoing support. In this role, you will track several projects at once as they move through the five-stage method (the Five Ms), hold the day-to-day client relationship, and make sure nothing slips through the cracks. You will also work directly with business owners to map how their business actually runs, end to end.
Schedule
Monday - Friday with 1 hour unpaid/paid break (40 work hours per week) UK Timezone
Responsibilities
- Track multiple client projects at the same time, maintaining visibility on which Five Ms stage each one is in and identifying blockers.
- Own the client relationship day to day as the primary point of contact, keeping clients informed, and setting honest expectations on timing and effort.
- Build and maintain project plans and Gantt charts, keeping them current as scope and dates change.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts: chase actions, dependencies, and outstanding information across the client, consultants, bookkeepers, and management accountants.
- Spot loose ends before they become problems, raising risks early with the client and leadership.
- Run regular progress check-ins and keep clear records of decisions, actions, and owners.
- Maintain transparent project status for the broader team and leadership.
- Flag opportunities for further work as projects mature, particularly at the Maintain stage.
- Run workshops and one-to-one sessions with business owners to map the full end-to-end life cycle of a client’s business, from initial inquiry to cash in the bank.
- Produce activity diagrams and flow charts that owners can read and validate, utilizing Miro and standard UML notation.
- Challenge assumptions politely but firmly, asking critical questions and testing statements against data.
- Identify gaps, duplication, bottlenecks, and quick wins in processes and systems.
- Translate findings into clear, plain-English insights that feed the Measure and Model stages.
- Communicate complex topics without jargon, providing clear, specific details suited for time-poor business owners.
Requirements
- A proven business analysis background with experience eliciting requirements, questioning assumptions, and documenting how a business or system works.
- Hands-on project management experience, including managing multiple concurrent projects and keeping them on schedule.
- Confident building and maintaining Gantt charts and project plans.
- Experience creating activity diagrams, flow charts, and basic UML models.
- Strong working knowledge of Miro (or a comparable online whiteboard tool) for workshops and process mapping.
- Proficient with everyday project and collaboration tools (task trackers, shared documents, spreadsheets).
- Experience working directly with external clients or stakeholders, ideally small business owners.
- Strong grasp of business numbers, including comfort reading a P&L statement and discussing cash flow.
- Proactive mindset with a strong drive to identify bottlenecks and resolve them independently.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver direct feedback or unwelcome truths professionally.
- Curious, analytical, highly organized, and trustworthy with excellent record-keeping habits.
- Collaborative disposition well-suited for a small team environment.
Qualifications
- Experience in financial services, accountancy, consulting, or finance operations is preferred.
- Familiarity with Xero or similar accounting software.
- Experience working with SMEs in sectors such as construction or e-commerce.
- Recognized qualification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) or business analysis (e.g., CBAP).
Independent Contractor Perks
- Permanent work from home
- Immediate hiring
- Health insurance for eligible locations
