CAD Drafter & 3D Design Specialist (Cabinetry | Joinery)

Overview:

Our client designs and builds custom campervans and buses, creating bespoke cabinetry, interior layouts, and functional living spaces. They are seeking a skilled CAD Drafter & 3D Design Specialist (Cabinetry | Joinery) to develop accurate technical drawings and realistic 3D visualizations that support both client approvals and workshop production. The ideal candidate must have practical fabrication knowledge, particularly in cabinetry design, measurements, CNC-ready drawings, and assembly, while helping establish a consistent and efficient long-term design process.

Schedule: Flexible from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Sydney Time (20 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Produce accurate 2D CAD drawings for custom campervan and bus interiors
  • Develop floor plans, cabinetry layouts, elevations, sections, and detailed manufacturing drawings
  • Create 3D models and realistic renders to help customers visualize proposed designs before production
  • Design custom cabinets, storage systems, furniture, and interior components suited to vehicle dimensions
  • Prepare drawings and files suitable for CNC cutting and cabinetry fabrication
  • Incorporate measurements, material specifications, joinery details, clearances, and assembly requirements into production drawings
  • Coordinate electrical and plumbing layouts with the overall interior design, where required
  • Revise designs based on customer feedback, technical constraints, and workshop requirements
  • Work with the client to ensure drawings are practical, accurate, and ready for manufacturing
  • Organize project files, drawing revisions, and design documentation for ongoing use

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in CAD drafting, technical drawing, 3D modeling, or product/interior design
  • Strong experience with cabinetry, joinery, custom furniture, interior fit-outs, or manufacturing drawings
  • Ability to produce technical drawings that can be used by fabricators and workshop teams
  • Experience designing around dimensional constraints and working from measurements or specifications
  • Competence with relevant CAD and 3D design tools, such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or comparable software
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret feedback accurately
  • Ability to manage revisions and deliver accurate work independently

Highly Preferred Industry Experience:

  • Campervan, motorhome, RV, caravan, bus, or vehicle-interior conversions
  • CNC cabinetry, cabinetmaking, joinery, and furniture manufacturing
  • Automotive interiors or other space-constrained custom fit-outs
  • Preparing CNC-ready files, nested components, cut lists, or production drawings

Candidates from residential cabinetry, marine interiors, yacht fit-outs, modular furniture, or architectural millwork may also be suitable if you have strong practical fabrication experience.

Portfolio Application Requirement (Mandatory):

Please provide a portfolio of relevant technical and design work, including examples of:

  • 2D CAD drawings and dimensioned production plans
  • Cabinetry or joinery drawings used for actual fabrication
  • 3D models and renders of completed or proposed interiors
  • CNC-ready files or examples of production documentation, if available
  • Completed projects showing the relationship between the original design and the finished product

Candidates should identify the software used, explain their role in each project, and clarify whether their drawings were used in actual production. Experience producing fabrication-ready drawings will carry more weight than renders alone.

Independent Contractor Perks:

  • Permanent work from home
  • Immediate hiring
