Job Overview
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented US Tax Preparer - Forms 1040 1120 1065 (ProSeries / Lacerte) with an accounting degree and 2–5 years of hands-on experience preparing US tax returns. The successful candidate will support individual and business tax preparation, organize supporting financial records, and communicate effectively within a US firm working environment. Knowledge of ProSeries or Lacerte tax software is required. This role requires sound technical knowledge, reliable follow-through, confidentiality, and integrity in recording and billing time worked.
Schedule: Flexible between business hours (California Time); required overlap with the US team to be agreed upon before commencement
Responsibilities
- Prepare US tax returns involving Forms 1040, 1120, and 1065, together with relevant schedules and supporting workpapers, for review by the designated supervisor.
- Review financial records and source documents for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before preparing returns.
- Organize tax documentation and maintain clear, accurate workpapers and client files.
- Identify missing information, discrepancies, and questions requiring clarification, and communicate them promptly to the appropriate team member.
- Assist with account reconciliations and supporting accounting schedules needed for tax preparation.
- Apply working knowledge of US taxation to assigned work and flag unfamiliar or complex matters for senior review.
- Manage assigned tasks and agreed deadlines, providing timely progress updates and raising potential delays early.
- Respond professionally to requests for information and collaborate effectively with the US-based team.
- Maintain accurate, transparent time records reflecting actual work performed and follow agreed billing and time-tracking procedures.
- Protect confidential financial and taxpayer information and follow the firm’s data-handling procedures.
- Provide additional support during busy periods, subject to agreed availability and approval of additional hours.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- US tax preparation: Ability to prepare accurate individual and business tax returns and supporting schedules within the assigned scope.
- Accounting fundamentals: Understanding of financial statements, account classifications, reconciliations, and supporting financial records.
- Tax software proficiency: Practical experience using professional US tax preparation software, knowledge of ProSeries or Lacerte, and the ability to learn the firm’s chosen platform.
- Spreadsheet skills: Ability to use Microsoft Excel or equivalent tools to organize financial data, prepare schedules, and check calculations.
- Document management: Ability to maintain organized, traceable workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Quality control: Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify errors, missing information, and inconsistencies before review.

Qualifications
- A degree in Accounting.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience preparing US tax returns, including hands-on experience with Forms 1040, 1120, and 1065.
- Working knowledge of US taxation and the documentation required to support individual and business tax returns.
- Knowledge of ProSeries or Lacerte tax software.
- Familiarity with the US firm working environment, including professional communication, review processes, deadlines, and time tracking.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Availability for a part-time arrangement and willingness to discuss additional hours as business needs arise.
