Overview

Our client is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer - JavaScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL who lives and breathes clean architecture, loves solving complex data problems, and wants to build high-impact systems used by top agents across the United States. In this role, you will architect core services, build advanced data models, and write high-performance SQL queries for CRM and Marketing platforms. Schedule:

• Flexible, Full-time Monday to Friday with at least 5 hours of overlap with US CST for meetings and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and maintain core services supporting our CRM and Marketing platforms
• Build advanced, scalable data models tailored to the evolving needs of the real estate industry
• Write efficient, high-performance SQL queries and optimize database operations
• Develop high-quality features with robust unit and integration testing
• Collaborate with Customer Success to understand real-world agent workflows and improve user experience
• Influence architectural decisions to support long-term maintainability and growth
• Partner with front-end developers and cross-functional teams to build cohesive, elegant solutions
• Stay on top of industry trends and contribute ideas for new features and backend improvements
• Lead projects when needed and help us continuously level up our engineering culture

Requirements

• Deep experience with JavaScript and Node.js
• Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL and SQL performance tuning
• A solid background in designing, building, and testing scalable backend services
• Experience building and consuming APIs
• A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
• Creativity in solving complex technical challenges

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent; 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, or a combination of experience and education.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Screening and Job Requirements:

Technical Priorities:

• Node.js — 10/10
• PostgreSQL — 10/10, including pure SQL without using an ORM
• RabbitMQ — 6/10
• Redis — 5/5
• The greatest weight when evaluating candidates should be given to strong Node.js, PostgreSQL, and API engineering experience
• Backend architecture, testing, and maintainability are important, but proven experience with large-scale APIs, Node.js, and PostgreSQL should carry the most weight

Seniority & Ownership:

• A truly senior candidate should have meaningful experience working on highly data-intensive production systems
• They should understand the challenges of scale and be able to make sound architectural decisions
• They should be able to clearly communicate technical decisions and trade-offs
• They should take full ownership of delivering solutions from design through production
• Once fully onboarded, they should be able to independently lead a feature from planning through production, coordinate with relevant teams, and own its successful delivery
• The team does not rely on daily stand-ups or close oversight once the developer is fully onboarded

Automatic Disqualifiers:

• No substantial hands-on Node.js experience
• No substantial hands-on PostgreSQL experience
• Unable to demonstrate successful experience working on a data-intensive production application
