Overview

Our client is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer / Draftsperson (AutoCAD & Fusion 360) to provide technical drafting and engineering support across workshop, mechanical, and pipework projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate 2D and 3D drawings, updating technical documentation, and preparing basic drawing packs and job cards using AutoCAD and Fusion 360. We are particularly interested in professionals who seamlessly combine practical drafting capabilities with an engineering background, especially those with exposure to HDPE pipelines or mining projects.

Responsibilities

Mechanical & Technical Drafting

• Produce accurate 2D and 3D mechanical drawings using AutoCAD and Fusion 360.
• Prepare basic workshop and fabrication drawings.
• Produce mechanical component, assembly, and detail drawings as required.
• Prepare and update pipework drawings and layouts.
• Interpret engineering specifications, sketches, measurements, and technical information.
• Make revisions to existing drawings based on engineering or project requirements.
• Ensure drawings are accurate, clear, and compliant with required drafting standards.
• Check dimensions, tolerances, materials, and other technical details before drawings are issued.
• Maintain organised drawing files and document versions.

Workshop Drawing Support

• Prepare basic workshop drawings for fabrication and manufacturing.
• Translate engineering concepts, sketches, and measurements into clear production-ready drawings.
• Liaise with workshop or engineering personnel to clarify drawing requirements.
• Make drawing amendments based on workshop feedback.
• Ensure drawings contain sufficient information for workshop teams to complete the required work.

Pipework & Hydraulic Drafting

• Prepare basic pipework layouts and mechanical drawings.
• Assist with drafting related to HDPE pipelines and associated infrastructure.
• Interpret basic hydraulic and mechanical requirements when preparing drawings.
• Assist with basic drawing packs for mining and industrial projects.
• Apply appropriate dimensions, specifications, and annotations to pipework drawings.

Job Cards & Documentation

• Populate job cards accurately based on project and workshop requirements.
• Enter technical information, job specifications, materials, quantities, and other required details.
• Ensure job cards are complete and ready for workshop use.
• Update documentation when project requirements change.
• Maintain accurate records and organised technical files.

Engineering Support

• Provide general drafting and technical support to the engineering and project teams.
• Assist engineers with basic design and drawing requirements.
• Review drawings for accuracy and identify potential issues before release.
• Research and clarify technical information when required.
• Follow established engineering, drafting, quality, and document-control procedures.
• Support other drafting and engineering administration tasks as required.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Draftsperson, Mechanical Draftsperson, Mechanical Designer, Mechanical Engineer, or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with AutoCAD.
• Strong experience with Fusion 360.
• Demonstrated experience in mechanical drafting.
• Demonstrated experience in pipework drafting.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong understanding of mechanical drafting principles.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned drafting tasks.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Good written and verbal English communication skills.

Ideal Requirements

• Degree or qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting, or a related discipline.
• Basic understanding of hydraulic engineering and mechanical engineering principles.
• Experience with HDPE pipeline systems.
• Experience preparing drawing packs for mine sites or mining projects.
• Previous experience working with mining, fabrication, industrial, or engineering companies.
• Understanding of fabrication and workshop processes.
• Experience working with engineering specifications and technical documentation.
• Experience preparing drawings for manufacturing or site installation.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• We are particularly interested in candidates who combine drafting capability with practical engineering knowledge.
• An ideal candidate may be a Mechanical Engineer who has hands-on CAD experience and exposure to HDPE pipelines or mining projects, as this background would allow them to potentially support more technical drawing packs and engineering documentation over time.
• Candidates should also be comfortable starting with straightforward, repeatable drafting tasks and progressively taking on more complex responsibilities as they become familiar with the company's standards and processes.
