Job Overview
The client is seeking an experienced AU Construction Estimator to support the management and technical team with estimating, quantity take-offs, project costing, and pre-construction activities. This role will take a significant portion of the estimating and administrative workload off the onshore team, allowing technicians and management to focus on project delivery, clients, and operations. The ideal candidate is more than a data-entry estimator, with the ability to understand construction, interpret technical information, think commercially, and communicate effectively with technicians and management. The successful candidate will independently assess project briefs, drawings, and site information and develop structured, accurate estimates that management can confidently use for client quotations.
Schedule
-
Monday - Friday, Flexible during client business hours, Perth Time (20 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Schedule and detailed cost breakdowns based on project requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs and review construction drawings, architectural/engineering plans, specifications, photographs, scope documents, and site information.
- Break down projects into labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor and direct/indirect costs, and research and validate current market pricing.
- Estimate a range of construction and maintenance works, including building repairs, façade and concrete works, painting/coating, glazing, cleaning, installation, rigging and other construction support activities.
- Review project scopes to identify gaps, exclusions, assumptions, risks and potential variations, and conduct preliminary feasibility, tender and cost-saving assessments.
- Compare supplier and subcontractor quotations, review historical project data and completed projects, and maintain accurate pricing databases, estimating templates and project documentation.
- Work closely with Australian-based management, project managers and onshore technicians to understand site conditions and construction methodologies, translating technical information into accurate scopes, material lists, quantities and cost estimates.
- Use ChatGPT, Claude and other AI tools to improve estimating, research, document preparation and analysis, while responsibly identifying missing information and risks and ensuring all estimates are professionally reviewed before submission.
Requirements

- Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications and technical documentation, with proven quantity take-off and cost estimation skills.
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy and commercial awareness, with the ability to identify costing requirements and potential estimating issues.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with Australian-based management, technicians and project teams.
- Highly organized, self-motivated and able to work independently, manage multiple estimating tasks and work effectively in a remote environment.
