Construction Estimator - US Remodeling & Construction

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and independent Construction Estimator for US Remodeling and Construction to take ownership of project budgeting, cost tracking, and schedule management for US-based residential remodeling projects. This role centers on end-to-end estimating and project controls, ensuring projects are accurately priced, well-managed, and delivered on time and within budget.

The ideal candidate is capable of working autonomously, making informed decisions without constant supervision, and proactively improving systems, processes, and documentation during downtime.

Schedule: Remote, Full Time: Monday - Friday, 08:00 AM - 05:00 PM CST, with 1 hour unpaid break.

Responsibilities:

Estimating & Cost Planning

  • Prepare accurate preliminary and detailed cost estimates covering labor, materials, and subcontractor scopes
  • Develop clear scope of work (SOW) descriptions and translate them into structured, time-and-cost-based estimates
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and documentation to validate estimate accuracy
  • Continuously refine estimating processes, templates, and cost databases for improved efficiency and accuracy

Project Controls (Core Focus)

  • Establish and manage project budgets, including forecasting and cost tracking
  • Monitor actual vs. estimated costs and identify variances early
  • Track and manage project schedules, ensuring milestones and timelines are met
  • Evaluate and manage change orders, assessing impact on cost and schedule
  • Maintain accurate project reporting (budget status, schedule progress, risks, and forecasts)
  • Support draw tracking and cost control efforts throughout the project lifecycle

Coordination & Execution

  • Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and costs
  • Track key project inputs (materials, labor, subcontractors) to support schedule adherence
  • Ensure timely communication of risks, delays, or cost overruns

Process Improvement & Ownership

  • Operate as a self-managed contributor with minimal oversight
  • Proactively improve internal systems, templates, and workflows during downtime
  • Help build scalable processes that enhance project efficiency and reporting accuracy
  • Deliver accurate estimates, scalable project control systems, and clear reporting to keep projects on schedule, within budget, and profitable while proactively mitigating overruns. 

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in US residential construction estimating and project controls
  • Strong understanding of remodeling projects, including labor, subcontractor scopes, and cost structures
  • Demonstrated ability to create detailed scope of work and time-based estimates
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (critical)
  • Experience with project management tools such as Procore, MS Project, or similar platforms
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify cost and schedule risks early
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities without constant supervision
  • Preferred: Background in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Preferred: Experience with project scheduling tools.
  • Preferred: PMP or similar project management certification.
