Job Overview
Our client is seeking an early-career Junior Financial Accountant to join their finance team and provide reliable support across general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, reporting, and transactional finance activities. In this role, you will help maintain accurate financial records, complete account reconciliations, process accounting transactions, and prepare financial information for management reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with strong accounting fundamentals who wants to develop broader experience within a growing Australian organization.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM AEST, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Perform regular bank reconciliations across accounts, match transactions against the general ledger, and investigate unreconciled items or unusual banking movements.
- Prepare and post accounting journals for accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, and month-end entries while maintaining supporting documentation.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, investigate discrepancy drivers, and maintain accurate reconciliation schedules.
- Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions by coding supplier invoices, allocating customer receipts, monitoring balances, and preparing payment information.
- Assist with the monthly financial close process, variance analysis across P&L and balance sheet accounts, and fixed asset/prepaid expense register maintenance.
- Compile financial data to assist in preparing monthly management reports, financial analysis, and internal/external audit schedules.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance workflows, reporting accuracy, and internal controls in compliance with established policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- 1–2 years of experience in an accounting or finance role with a solid understanding of double-entry accounting principles and general ledger accounting.
- Experience using Xero or another ERP/accounting software platform.
- Practical experience performing account and bank reconciliations with the ability to investigate discrepancies to identify root causes.
- Strong Excel capabilities, including proficiency with Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, IF/IFS formulas, and financial schedule maintenance.
- Strong numerical, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills with the capability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present financial information clearly to internal stakeholders.
