Senior Residential Draftsperson (AutoCAD | Australian Standards)

Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Residential Draftsperson (AutoCAD | Australian Standards) to become the trusted technical owner of their drafting function. In this role, you will combine strong production capability with technical judgment and leadership skills. You will be responsible for producing complete residential working drawings, ensuring compliance with Australian standards, reviewing and quality-checking work from junior draftspersons, and mentoring team members to maintain high standards across the drafting team.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sydney Time, with a 1-hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate residential working drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Ensure plans comply with the NCC, Australian building requirements, setbacks, overlooking provisions, and other relevant regulations.
  • Review and quality-check drawings completed by two junior draftspersons.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical feedback to junior team members.
  • Take ownership of drafting jobs from initial information through to completed working drawings.
  • Complete markups and revisions within agreed turnaround times.
  • Communicate with engineers, building surveyors, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Prepare and respond to RFIs where required.
  • Identify compliance or buildability risks before drawings progress to site.
  • Help update and maintain the company's existing AutoCAD plan library.
  • Keep drawings aligned with changes to Australian building standards and regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with the broader team during Australian business hours.

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience using AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated experience producing complete residential working drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian residential construction and building compliance.
  • Practical understanding of the NCC and relevant planning and building requirements.
  • Ability to review drawings and identify compliance, documentation, and construction issues.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or checking the work of junior draftspersons.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Confidence communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and strong personal accountability.
  • Ability to take ownership, speak up, and resolve issues without constant supervision.
