Senior Legal Bookkeeper

Job Overview

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Legal Bookkeeper  to support the Finance Manager in managing day-to-day accounting operations, with a strong emphasis on trust account compliance and accurate financial reporting. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work within legal accounting frameworks using proprietary systems.

Client Overview

Our client is a professional services firm operating within the legal and accounting space, providing structured financial management support with a strong focus on compliance, accuracy, and trust account integrity. Their finance team works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure all financial operations meet strict regulatory and reporting standards.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM AEST, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Finance Manager with trust account management, ensuring accurate reconciliation and compliance with legal accounting standards
  • Perform daily bookkeeping tasks including bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
  • Maintain accurate financial records using proprietary legal accounting software (Affinity)
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions with accuracy and consistency
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in financial data
  • Ensure all financial records are maintained in line with internal controls and compliance requirements
  • Support ongoing financial reporting and administrative accounting functions

Requirements

  • Minimum 4+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally within professional services or legal environments
  • Strong understanding of core accounting principles (degree-level accounting knowledge preferred)
  • Experience with accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks
  • Ability to quickly adapt to proprietary systems (Affinity or similar platforms)
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage recurring financial processes
