Technical Operations Engineer (React / Supabase / SQL)

Job Overview

Are you a practical, solutions-driven developer passionate about building systems that solve real operational challenges? Our client is looking for someone with strong experience in React and/or React Native, paired with hands-on knowledge of Supabase or Firebase, SQL, and database design. You should be confident transforming complex manual workflows into efficient, automated software solutions while collaborating closely with business stakeholders. Strong communication skills and a problem-solving mindset are essential. Bonus points if you’ve worked with low-code platforms, Bluebeam integrations, or software for construction, engineering, field services, or compliance industries.

Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM AEST (Melbourne, VIC Time), including a 1-hour unpaid break (40 hours per wek)

Platform Scope & Initial Deliverables You will spearhead the development of the platform's foundation module, which specifically focuses on:

  • Rules-based profile matching for passive fire service and penetration selection.
  • Generating instant installation outputs and structural compliance notes.
  • Manufacturer data selection matrices and office-side review workflows.
  • Multi-device photo capture and blueprint markup integration.

Responsibilities

Full-Stack Engineering & System Architecture

  • Application Development: Build, maintain, and iterate web and mobile-responsive application interfaces utilizing modern component-driven frameworks.
  • Database Management: Design and maintain robust database schemas, optimizing data structures, queries, and serverless logic rules.
  • Integration Engineering: Connect the core platform with existing construction systems, third-party APIs, blueprint software (Bluebeam), and legacy Excel-based calculators.

Workflow Automation & Field Optimization

  • Compliance Automation: Translate complex, real-world regulatory compliance guidelines and manufacturing parameters into automated digital validation steps.
  • UI/UX for the Field: Design clean, practical, and low-friction interfaces tailored specifically for high-efficiency field technicians operating on active jobsites.
  • Live Iteration: Troubleshoot production bugs, optimize app performance, and continuously roll out feature enhancements based on live feedback from field teams and office reviewers.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Frontend Expertise: Strong professional experience developing applications with React and/or React Native.
  • Backend & Database Fluency: Practical experience implementing cloud-native backend-as-a-service layers (Supabase or Firebase) paired with a solid understanding of SQL and database normalization.
  • Systems Thinking: Demonstrated capability to look at manual, multi-step field workflows and translate them into logical, automated software components.
  • Communication Mastery: Strong written and verbal English communication skills to effectively collaborate on system design and technical planning with the business owner.
  • Execution Style: A highly practical, problem-solving developer who prioritizes real-world system utility and operational stability over theoretical code aesthetics.

Bonus Skills (Advantageous but Not Essential)

  • Experience with low-code/no-code operational suites (e.g., PowerApps, AppSheet, Airtable).
  • Direct engineering experience with Bluebeam workflow integrations or PDF markup automation layers.
  • Previous background building software for the construction, field services, engineering, or industrial compliance sectors.

Who This Role Is NOT For

  • Generic Virtual Assistants or admin-only profiles.
  • WordPress-only or CMS-focused website front-end developers.
  • Graphic/UI designers without production-level coding capability.
  • Freelancers looking for short-term projects (this is a long-term position that will evolve with the business).

Independent Contractor Perks

  • Permanent work from home
  • Immediate hiring
  • Health Insurance Coverage for eligible locations
