Industrial IoT & Automation Support Technician

Job Overview

This role focuses on supporting industrial monitoring and automation systems using platforms including ThingsBoard, Dragino, Bivocom, and Coolmay PLC systems.

The successful candidate will assist with dashboard creation, telemetry configuration, MQTT integrations, remote troubleshooting, and basic ladder logic programming.

Work Schedule: 20hrs per week, Flexible within client's business hours | Australian Central Standard Time 

Responsibilities

Industrial IoT Configuration

  • Configure industrial IoT gateways and sensors
  • Assist with LoRaWAN device onboarding
  • Configure MQTT telemetry
  • Support remote device troubleshooting
  • Configure alarms, telemetry, and device rules

Dashboard & Cloud Platform Support

  • Create and maintain ThingsBoard dashboards
  • Configure customer telemetry widgets
  • Build alarms and notification logic
  • Configure user/customer dashboards
  • Assist with cloud monitoring deployments

PLC & Automation Support

  • Basic ladder logic programming
  • PLC timer/interlock configuration
  • Assist with remote PLC troubleshooting
  • Configure Modbus communication
  • Support simple automation sequences

Platforms & Hardware

Systems may include:

Technical Support

  • Assist customers with remote setup
  • Help diagnose connectivity issues
  • Configure VPN and remote access systems
  • Document system setups and configurations
  • Create deployment templates and SOPs

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Basic PLC ladder logic experience
  • Understanding of Modbus RS485 communication
  • MQTT and IoT protocol understanding
  • Experience with ThingsBoard or similar platforms
  • Understanding of industrial networking concepts
  • Remote troubleshooting experience

Highly Regarded

  • LoRaWAN experience
  • Node-RED experience
  • Linux/VPN experience
  • Industrial automation exposure
  • SCADA/dashboard experience
  • Experience with industrial sensors and telemetry systems

This role is focused on practical industrial IoT deployment and support — not enterprise software development.
