Australian Bookkeeper (Xero)

Job Overview:

As a Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for managing the company’s end-to-end bookkeeping processes using Xero. You will oversee accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, reconciliations, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with Australian taxation and reporting requirements. You will work closely with the business owner and external accountant to maintain accurate and organized financial records that support ongoing business operations.

The company is looking for a professional who can take ownership of bookkeeping responsibilities and ensure a smooth transition from the retiring bookkeeper while maintaining accurate financial records and payroll processes.

This role is ideal for an experienced bookkeeper who is confident working independently and managing financial operations within an Australian business environment.

Schedule:

  • Part-time (20 hours per week), Flexible during Australian Eastern Standard Time business hours

Responsibilities:

Bookkeeping & Financial Management

  • Manage end-to-end bookkeeping processes using Xero
  • Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Reconcile bank statements and maintain accurate financial records
  • Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and promptly

Payroll & Compliance

  • Process payroll accurately and on time for a team of 11 employees
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with Australian payroll regulations
  • Support taxation and reporting requirements in line with Australian standards

Reporting & Coordination

  • Prepare financial reports and documentation for the external accountant
  • Work closely with the business owner and accountant to support financial operations
  • Assist with maintaining organized and audit-ready financial records

Process Continuity

  • Ensure a seamless transition from the retiring bookkeeper
  • Maintain continuity of existing financial systems and workflows
  • Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping efficiency and organization

Requirements:

  • Proven experience using Xero accounting software
  • Strong understanding of Australian bookkeeping standards, payroll, and tax obligations
  • High attention to detail and accuracy with financial data
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience supporting small to medium-sized Australian businesses
  • Familiarity with payroll processing for multi-employee teams

Job Scope:
In this role, you will manage payroll and bookkeeping for an 11-person team and a business generating AUD $140,000 in monthly turnover. Working directly with the business owner and external accountant, you’ll take full ownership of financial operations with long-term growth potential. The position includes a supportive transition period from the retiring bookkeeper to ensure your success within this stable team.
