Chief Financial Officer
Schedule: 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, flexible between 9AM to 5PM Harbor WA
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to guide and manage all financial aspects of our business. The ideal candidate will not only ensure robust financial operations and compliance, but also support long-term growth and strategic planning, helping steer the company through evolving opportunities in the adventure- and tourism-based sector.
Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee all accounting and finance operations, including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger.

Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant preparation of financial statements and reports.

Manage cash flow — monitor liquidity, cash inflows/outflows, working capital, and ensure healthy financial position.

Develop and enforce financial policies and internal controls for consistency, compliance, and risk mitigation.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

Lead the financial planning and budgeting process.

Provide forecasting and financial modeling to support business planning, seasonal planning, capital expenditures (e.g., gear, equipment, vessels), and expansion efforts.

Track and analyze financial performance; identify trends, areas of opportunity or concern; recommend corrective actions.

Strategic Advisory & Business Partnering

Collaborate with senior leadership (including CEO/Directors) to support business strategy and operational planning.

Use financial insights to support decisions around new services (e.g., tours, rentals, new markets), pricing, investments, and resource allocation.

Evaluate and guide major investments, capital expenditures, and potential partnerships or expansion initiatives.

Treasury, Funding & Capital Structure

Manage the company’s capital structure, debt, equity, liquidity strategies.

If needed, lead fundraising efforts (investors, loans, grants) or manage relationships with financial institutions and external stakeholders.

Assess and manage financial risk, ensuring sustainability and resilience.

Team Leadership & Organizational Finance Functions

Build, lead, and mentor the finance and accounting team (controllers, accountants, financial analysts, payroll/AR–AP staff).

Ensure clear communication of financial information to department heads, enabling them to make informed operational decisions (tour operations, equipment procurement, maintenance, staffing, etc.).

Establish financial KPIs and reporting mechanisms to aid executive decision-making.

Compliance & Governance

Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements.

Maintain accurate documentation and audit readiness.

Work with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel as necessary.

Operational Support & Cross-Functional Involvement

Collaborate with operations, logistics, and tour-management teams to align financial planning with operational realities (e.g., seasonality, vessel maintenance, rental equipment lifecycle, safety gear procurement).

Provide financial oversight for expenditures related to safety, maintenance, marketing, staffing, and other critical operational areas.

Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.

Extensive professional experience in finance management, accounting, treasury, or similar roles; prior experience as CFO or senior finance leader is strongly preferred.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills — ability to lead a finance team and collaborate with diverse functions (operations, logistics, marketing, management).

Deep understanding of business operations; ability to translate financial data into actionable strategic input.

Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, capital management, and risk assessment.

Comfortable with dynamic and possibly seasonal business cycles — ability to plan for peak and off-peak periods, fluctuating demand, variable expenses
