Paralegal (MyCase)

Job Overview

Our client is looking for a Paralegal (My Case) to support a busy California civil litigation practice. In this full-time role, you will manage active cases through proactive document preparation, discovery handling, court filing, and calendar monitoring using MyCase software. You will maintain consistent communication with clients, courts, and vendors while keeping case files organized from intake through resolution. This position is ideal for an autonomous legal professional who manages competing deadlines with precision and initiative.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM PST [Valencia, CA Time] (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Case Management and MyCase: Open new matters and maintain organized files from intake through resolution. Manage documents, contacts, communications, calendars, tasks, case notes, and deadlines in MyCase. Promptly upload and categorize documents and correspondence. Keep MyCase current as the central source of case information rather than relying on separate informal systems.
  • Calendaring and Deadline Monitoring: Calendar and monitor court dates, hearings, mediations, depositions, discovery deadlines, and filing deadlines. Review incoming mail, electronic filings, court notices, and correspondence for applicable deadlines. Alert the attorney to approaching deadlines and matters requiring attention.
  • Legal Document Preparation: Prepare and format California state court pleadings, motions, declarations, notices, and proposed orders. Assist with probate and trust filings. Draft routine correspondence and attorney-directed communications. Proofread documents for accuracy, formatting, and filing readiness.
  • Discovery: Prepare discovery requests, responses, verifications, subpoenas, and related documents, including Form Interrogatories, Special Interrogatories, Requests for Production, and Requests for Admission. Organize document productions and discovery materials. Follow up with clients for documents, responses, signatures, verifications, and missing information.
  • Court Filing and Service: E-file documents with California courts. Coordinate service of process and service of legal documents.
  • Hearing, Mediation, and Trial Preparation: Prepare exhibits, exhibit lists, witness lists, deposition materials, hearing binders, and trial documents. Assist with mediation and trial preparation.
  • Communication and Follow-Up: Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, vendors, process servers, experts, and other parties. Maintain task lists and follow up on outstanding assignments. Provide regular attorney updates on deadlines, outstanding tasks, and significant developments. Assist with additional administrative and case-management duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Prior paralegal experience in a California law firm preferred.
  • Familiarity with California Superior Court procedures and filing requirements.
  • California civil litigation and discovery experience strongly preferred.
  • Probate, trust, real estate, and/or landlord-tenant experience is a plus.

Ideal Candidate
