Drafting Technician (SketchUp)

Job Overview

We are seeking a Drafting Technician (SketchUp) to produce technical documentation for scenic fabrication projects in the entertainment and live events industries. In this role, you will convert 3D models into fabrication packets, complete with accurate cut lists, CNC-ready DXF files, and assembly guides. You will ensure designs account for modular disassembly and transportation while meeting tight one- to two-day project turnarounds. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in SketchUp, and experienced in technical drafting for production builds.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, flexible anytime with some overlap with PST business hours (40 hrs per week)

Responsibilities

  • Produce complete drafting packets for scenic fabrication projects across entertainment, live events, and film
  • Generate accurate cut lists and CNC-ready cut files (DXF format) to keep the production floor operational
  • Develop material call-outs and assembly documentation tailored to each project's scope and complexity
  • Adapt drafting detail levels based on project type, from full engineering-grade theme park builds to rapid-turnaround film sets
  • Ensure all designs account for disassembly, transport logistics, and on-site reassembly requirements
  • Collaborate closely with the in-house team to meet tight one- to two-day turnaround deadlines

Must-have requirements

  • Proven experience in technical drafting with a strong portfolio of fabrication-ready deliverables
  • Proficiency in SketchUp and ability to translate 3D models into detailed fabrication documents
  • Strong spatial reasoning and an understanding of how components break down for modular construction and transport
  • High level of attention to detail, particularly in material specifications and dimensional accuracy
  • Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback to align with the company's fabrication methodology
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment

Nice-to-have requirements

  • Bonus if you have prior experience drafting for themed entertainment, stage design, or large-scale experiential builds
  • It helps if you have hands-on familiarity with CNC machinery or direct experience working alongside a fabrication shop floor
  • Bonus if you have working knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD platforms in addition to SketchUp
