Job Overview
Our client is seeking a Web Application & Systems Integration Specialist to lead the development of a custom Shopify-based platform. This role bridges e-commerce functionality with high-volume art production workflows. The ideal candidate will design and implement a robust file upload and preview system, ensure seamless server integration, and optimize user experience for professional artists. This position requires both technical expertise in web app development and practical understanding of production workflows in fine art printing.
Schedule: Remote, Part Time | Monday - Friday, 4 hours per day during US Central Time business hours (20 work hours per week)
Responsibilities:
- Custom Application Development: Build and deploy a Shopify-integrated GUI that supports large file uploads (100MB+ TIFF/JPEG) with real-time previews, cropping, scaling, and DPI quality indicators.
- Systems Integration: Automate secure file transfers (SFTP or equivalent) from Shopify to local production servers, ensuring cropped and original files are properly routed.
- Workflow Automation: Generate digital job tickets (PDF/CSV) with thumbnails, dimensions, paper type, and server file paths for both client confirmation and production team use.
- UX/UI Optimization: Design a responsive, artist-focused interface that balances desktop optimization with mobile accessibility.
- Storage Management: Implement scalable storage solutions (e.g., Amazon S3) as intermediaries for large file handling.
- E-commerce Enhancements: Configure dynamic dropdowns for media selection, bulk discount logic, and consolidated product categories (e.g., Giclee & Photo Prints).
- Performance Optimization: Address browser performance issues, streamline site navigation, and ensure efficient load times despite heavy app integrations.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with production staff to align digital workflows with physical printing processes.
Requirements:
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in Shopify app development (private/custom apps).
- Strong proficiency with APIs (Cloudinary, Filestack, or similar) for file handling and previews.
- Knowledge of secure server integration protocols (SFTP, cloud storage).
- Web Development Skills: Advanced skills in JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and responsive UI frameworks.
- Experience with real-time image manipulation and DPI calculation logic.
- Systems & Workflow Knowledge: Familiarity with production workflows in fine art printing or related industries.
- Ability to design automated job ticketing systems integrated with e-commerce platforms.
- Operational Skills: Strong problem-solving and optimization mindset for high-performance websites.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple technical and operational priorities.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in web application development, with at least 2 years in e-commerce or digital asset management.
- Prior exposure to large-format printing, fine art reproduction, or creative industry platforms preferred.
- Soft Skills: Clear communication and documentation abilities.
- Collaborative approach to working with both technical and creative teams.
