Reports To: Operations Leadership
About Our Client
Our client is a fast-growing, disruptive private lending company transforming access to capital for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Australia. With a market-leading promise of approval and funding within two hours, a 90% approval rate, and rapid growth, they are scaling quickly and need a high-caliber Senior Underwriter to take ownership of credit assessments and help maintain their reputation for speed and quality.
About the Role
We are seeking a senior, performance-driven Senior Underwriter to take full accountability for credit underwriting quality, decision accuracy, and turnaround times. This is a senior individual contributor role—you will be hands-on with complex files, set the standard for assessment quality, and serve as a trusted reference point for the wider underwriting team. There is potential to step into a lead capacity as the team grows, but this is first and foremost an underwriting role.
You will work closely with operations leadership to ensure applications are assessed efficiently, quality controls are upheld, and credit risk is managed to protect portfolio health. Your focus will be on application completeness, processing speed, and credit risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
-
Credit Underwriting & Decision Quality
-
Take full ownership of complex and high-value credit assessments, applying expert judgment to financial statements, bank statements, and credit risk factors.

-
Maintain high standards of assessment quality, minimizing portfolio defaults and upholding credit policy.

Queue Ownership & Turnaround
-
-
Own the end-to-end application queue, ensuring same-day funding coverage and rapid turnaround on complete files.
-
Keep the pending application queue below 5% of monthly assessment volume.
-
Ensure every pending file carries a clear written reason and a defined next step.
-
-
Quality Control & Risk Mitigation
- Conduct regular quality checks on financial assessments, bank statement analyses, and final underwriting reviews.
- Identify credit risks early and escalate operational concerns to operations leadership where appropriate.
-
Reporting & Escalation

Contribute to standardized coverage and cut-off times to handle volume spikes seamlessly.
-
Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

Analytical Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in financial statement analysis, bank statement review, and credit risk assessment.
-
Decision Quality: Strong judgment on credit risk, with a track record of making sound underwriting decisions at speed.
-
Operational Discipline: Comfortable working within structured AU business hours to hit daily processing and quality targets.
-
Senior Presence: Capable of acting as a senior reference point for the team—without necessarily holding a formal management title.
-
Potential to Lead: While this is an individual contributor role, the right candidate may grow into a lead capacity as the team scales.
