Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Billing & Accounts Receivable Specialist (Pain Management) with specialized experience in pain management billing. In this part-time remote role, you will oversee claims submissions, manage denials, post payments, and conduct accounts receivable follow-ups to ensure accurate reimbursement. You will also communicate directly with insurance carriers and patients regarding account balances while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA and payer guidelines. A dedicated home office setup with a Windows-based computer is required.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8 AM -12 PM EST (20 hrs per week)

Responsibilities

• Minimum 2+ years of billing/AR experience specifically in a pain management practice (required — general medical billing experience alone will not be considered)
• Strong working knowledge of pain management ICD-10, CPT codes (e.g., injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulators, UDS billing), Strong understanding of, CPT, and HCPCS coding
• Experience with prior authorizations and appeals related to pain management procedures
• Familiarity with insurance payer requirements and medical necessity documentation for pain management services
• Proficiency with EHR/practice management billing software
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Reliable home office setup (high-speed internet, quiet workspace) with a Microsoft based computer

Must-Have Requirements

• Track insurance claims for pain management procedures and office visits

• Manage accounts receivable, including aging reports and follow-up on unpaid/underpaid claims

• Handle claim denials and resubmissions, including appeals

• Post payments and reconcile accounts

• Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and discrepancies

• Collaborate with front office and clinical staff regarding billing questions

• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and payer regulations

• Talking to patients regarding balances and having the ability to explain why they have a balance and collecting payment if needed

• Experience working with a multi-provider pain management practice is preferred

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Biller (CPB) credential is preferred
