About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Construction Accounting Specialist to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of our construction business. This role is responsible for managing accounts payable and receivable, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring timely processing of transactions. The ideal candidate has prior bookkeeping experience within the construction or trades industry and understands the unique financial workflows involved in managing projects, vendors, subcontractors, and customer billing.
This position requires excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (US Mountain Time, 20 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full Accounts Payable (AP) process, including vendor invoices, payment scheduling, and reconciliations.
- Handle Accounts Receivable (AR), including customer invoicing, payment tracking, collections, and account reconciliation.
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts regularly.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Monitor outstanding invoices and follow up on overdue payments professionally.
- Maintain organized financial documentation and digital records.
- Work closely with project managers or business owners to track project-related expenses and costs.
- Prepare financial reports and assist with budgeting and cash flow management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting best practices.
- Support external accountants or CPAs by preparing required financial documentation.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the construction, contracting, or trades industry.
- Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of construction accounting concepts such as job costing, subcontractor payments, progress billing, or project expense tracking is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Strong reconciliation and data entry skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Highly organized, dependable, and trustworthy with confidential financial information.
