Graphic Production Designer (Adobe Illustrator)

Job Overview

 Our client is seeking a Graphic Production Designer (Adobe Illustrator) to adapt customer artwork for customized packaging, ensuring designs meet approved templates, specifications, and production requirements. The role is 70% template-based artwork and 30% creative adaptation, requiring strong attention to detail and production-ready file preparation. 

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with 1 hour unpaid break, Sydney (40 hours per week)

Responsibilities

Packaging Artwork & Artwork Execution

  • Liaise closely with Packaging staff to prepare and adapt artwork according to customer specifications, approved templates, layouts, brand guidelines, and detailed briefs.
  • Apply customer-provided designs, logos, colors, text, images, and other specifications accurately, ensuring artwork is correctly positioned, sized, formatted, and suitable for the selected packaging materials.
  • Review all artwork thoroughly to identify errors, inconsistencies, and potential production issues before submission, ensuring accurate and high-quality reproduction.
  • Liaise with customers’ Design and Marketing teams to confirm brand guidelines, artwork specifications, approval requirements, and clarify incomplete or unclear instructions.
  • Produce artwork in accordance with Procedure HPCDES001 Printing Artwork, including correct version control, file naming, documentation, customer approvals, sign-offs, and production records.
  • Collaborate with Packaging and Operations teams to verify printed bags and other packaging products during initial production runs.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and manufacturers to resolve artwork queries and confirm production requirements and technical specifications.
  • Provide timely updates throughout the artwork review and approval process and ensure final artwork is correctly prepared and delivered within agreed deadlines.

Graphic Design & Creative Adaptation

  • Make design adjustments and creative adaptations to existing artwork based on customer requirements and project briefs.
  • Develop or modify layouts, graphics, images, typography, and other visual elements while maintaining approved brand guidelines and customer requirements.
  • Create supporting visual assets for packaging and related business requirements, preparing artwork for both digital and print production.
  • Translate customer and internal briefs into accurate, practical design solutions and use professional judgement to identify and resolve potential design or production issues.
  • Maintain and organize digital artwork libraries, templates, and brand resources to ensure accessibility and version control.

Customer & Internal Communication

  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding artwork requirements, revisions, approvals, and production specifications, providing clear and timely updates.
  • Work closely with Packaging, Operations, Sales, and other internal stakeholders to ensure artwork requirements are clearly understood and delivered.
  • Provide guidance on artwork formats, print requirements, file specifications, and technical considerations where appropriate.
  • Escalate unclear, conflicting, or potentially problematic artwork instructions before proceeding with production.

Marketing Support

  • Provide occasional graphic design support for marketing activities, promotions, trade shows, conferences, and other business initiatives as required.
  • Support the creation and adaptation of marketing assets using existing brand guidelines and approved designs.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in graphic design, artwork production, packaging artwork, or a related role
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Experience adapting existing templates and preparing print-ready artwork based on customer specifications
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, color, image placement, and visual consistency, with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to identify artwork and production issues, maintain accurate file versions, and manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong communication, organization, planning, and time-management skills, with the ability to follow detailed instructions and collaborate across teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365; experience in packaging, print production, customized products, or related industries is highly desirable, and marketing coordination experience is a plus.
