Job Overview

Our client is a boutique fixed income investment manager seeking a motivated and detail-oriented graduate to join their Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in investment operations. Unlike larger institutions where responsibilities may be limited to a single function, you'll gain end-to-end exposure to the operational lifecycle of fixed income portfolios, working closely with experienced professionals and sitting alongside the investment team. No prior operations experience is required. Comprehensive training on fixed income markets, investment instruments, operational processes, and systems will be provided.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM AEST, with 1 hour unpaid break (35 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

• Capture, validate, and match fixed income trades across various securities including government bonds, corporate bonds, floating rate notes, and money market instruments.
• Prepare and issue settlement instructions to custodians and settlement agents.
• Monitor trade settlements and investigate failed or delayed settlements.
• Perform daily cash and holdings reconciliations and investigate reconciliation breaks through to resolution.
• Liaise with custodians, administrators, brokers, counterparties, and internal stakeholders to resolve operational issues promptly.
• Review daily and month-end operational reports and investigate any discrepancies.
• Monitor corporate actions including coupon payments, maturities, principal repayments, redemptions, and early calls to ensure accurate processing.
• Maintain accurate security reference data and market data within the portfolio management system.
• Support the Portfolio Manager by responding to settlement, cash, holdings, and position queries.
• Assist with maintaining operational documentation, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

• Solid Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, sorting, filtering, and basic data analysis.
• Genuine interest in fixed income and financial markets with a strong numerical aptitude.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with a strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Preferred: Basic understanding of bonds, interest rates, and fixed income products; knowledge of investment management or financial markets gained through university coursework or internships; exposure to portfolio management or investment systems; previous internship or part-time experience within financial services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, Actuarial Studies, Accounting, Business, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
