CAD/CAM Draftsperson (Fusion 360)

Job Overview

Our client is looking for an experienced CAD/CAM Draftsperson specializing in Autodesk Fusion 360 to support their expanding production pipeline. This specialized, back-end technical role is focused on converting physical scan data into production-ready CAD models and generating CNC toolpaths using Fusion 360. Working in a template-driven environment, the draftsperson will reverse-engineer small plastic parts, build parametric CAD templates to streamline turnaround times, and collaborate directly with on-site machinists to ensure zero-defect file delivery.

Client Overview

Our client is an established precision parts manufacturer based in Atlanta, Georgia, specializing in high-accuracy plastic components and custom replacement parts (typically small-scale items around 2" x 3"). Driven by rapid response times and manufacturing precision, the team utilizes cutting-edge 3D scanning and CNC machining technology to produce custom components for industrial clients.

Schedule

  • Flexible hours during U.S. Eastern Time (EST/EDT) business hours (20 work hours per week to start, with potential to scale to 40 hours as volume grows)

Responsibilities

  • Reverse Engineering & 3D Scan Modeling: Reconstruct accurate 3D CAD models from physical scan data and point clouds using Autodesk Fusion 360, maintaining strict dimensional tolerances.
  • CAM Toolpath Generation: Generate CNC-ready CAM toolpaths, G-code, and manufacturing files directly within Fusion 360's Manufacturing Workspace for plastic components.
  • Parametric Template Building: Design and refine reusable parametric templates to accelerate model generation and toolpath creation for recurring part geometries.
  • Machining Team Collaboration: Coordinate closely with on-site machinists to validate model geometry, tool selections, speeds/feeds, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Version Control & File Integrity: Maintain strict file naming conventions, digital organization, and version control across all CAD/CAM project repositories to ensure rapid order fulfillment.
  • Deliver rapid turnaround by efficiently converting scan data into STEP files, primarily for 2D and 2.5D flat parts.

Requirements

  • Fusion 360 Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360, specifically including parametric modeling and the Manufacturing Workspace (CAM).
  • Experience in CAM programming and post-processing (G-code/toolpath generation)
  • Reverse Engineering Expertise: Direct experience converting 3D scan data or physical reference measurements into accurate mechanical/plastic CAD models.
  • CNC Machining Knowledge: Deep understanding of CNC machining principles, toolpath strategies, feeds/speeds, and tolerance requirements for plastic materials.
  • Speed & Parametric Efficiency: Ability to develop efficient modeling workflows and templates to maintain fast turnaround times on new job assignments.
  • Technical Communication: Clear, proactive communication skills to align with on-site production teams and resolve design/machining queries quickly.
  • Comfortable using Fusion 360's automation features, reusable templates, and AI-assisted tools to improve modeling efficiency.
  • Familiarity with QuickSurface, Mesh2Surface, or similar reverse engineering software is an advantage.
  • Ability to deliver rapid turnaround, especially converting scans to STEP files for mostly 2D/2.5D flat parts
