Job Overview:
Our client is seeking a Medical Triage Specialist to provide remote clinical support by triaging patient calls and portal messages, documenting care in the EMR, and escalating urgent concerns following established protocols. In this role, you will collaborate with providers and care teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered service while maintaining HIPAA compliance, productivity, and documentation standards.
Schedule: Monday, 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM (No lunch break); Tuesday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST, with 1 hour unpaid break (38 work hours per week)
*Note: Every first Tuesday of the month, lunch break is held from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM.
Responsibilities:
- Uphold the client's mission, values, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Deliver an exceptional patient experience by demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and a patient-first approach during all patient interactions.
- Triage inbound clinical telephone calls and Healow patient portal medical messages, documenting and routing concerns appropriately according to established protocols.
- Review patient symptoms and escalate urgent clinical concerns to the provider or clinical leadership in accordance with established triage protocols.
- Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Communicate daily with the Clinical Manager regarding workflow, patient concerns, pending tasks, and operational updates.
- Collaborate effectively with providers, medical liaisons, patient experience staff, and other departments to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Maintain assigned productivity, quality, and turnaround time standards established by the practice.
- Participate in daily huddles, scheduled meetings, required training sessions, and ongoing professional development activities.
- Maintain proficiency with EMR systems, Healow, and Microsoft Office applications.
Requirements:
- Experience working in a clinical setting with direct patient care experience.
- Hands-on experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and multi-provider scheduling workflows.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity, quality, and accuracy standards in a remote environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- High level of attention to detail for data entry, documentation, and medical scheduling workflows.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills under fast-paced or challenging conditions.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy while effectively de-escalating patient concerns and maintaining professional composure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, patient portals, and healthcare technology platforms.
- Basic mathematical skills for processing patient payments and financial transactions.
- Full compliance with HIPAA and protected health information security requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical appointment scheduling workflows and preventive care services.
- Knowledge of insurance eligibility and benefits verification.
