Job Overview
Our client is looking for a Senior US Bookkeeper (QuickBooks Online & Payroll) and strategic partner to the business owner, taking full ownership of complex client accounts from reconciliation through financial reporting. This is not a data entry role; you will be expected to independently diagnose and resolve accounting discrepancies, research solutions to challenging problems, and potentially manage other team members as the business scales. You will work directly with construction companies using specialized software, manage payroll across multiple states, and help implement AI-driven process improvements. This role requires someone who thrives on solving problems independently and can learn new platforms quickly without hand-holding.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM Mountain Time (40 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Reconcile bank accounts and resolve complex discrepancies independently without requiring constant supervision or approval.
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients across different industries using QuickBooks Online.
- Process payroll using various platforms, including Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, and SurePayroll, while ensuring compliance with state-specific regulations.
- Research and understand state-specific payroll tax liabilities and regulations, particularly for multi-state clients.
- Learn and master industry-specific software platforms such as BuilderTrend for construction clients and other third-party applications.
- Investigate and reconcile balance sheet discrepancies by pulling audit logs, analyzing historical data, and identifying root causes.
- Manage tasks and workflow through Asana, completing assigned projects with minimal direction.
Requirements
- Minimum five years of professional bookkeeping experience with demonstrated ability to handle complex accounting issues.
- Expert-level proficiency with QuickBooks Online, including advanced reconciliation and troubleshooting.
- Strong experience with US payroll processing, payroll tax liabilities, and multi-state payroll compliance.
- Proven ability to independently research and solve complex accounting problems without constant supervision.
- Professional communication skills in English for client interaction and team collaboration.
- Comfortable learning new software platforms quickly, including industry-specific tools and Asana or similar project management platforms.
- Self-motivated problem-solver who takes initiative rather than waiting for direction.
Independent Contractor Perks
- Permanent work from home
- Immediate hiring
- Health Insurance Coverage for eligible locations
