Why This Role?

As the Lead Technical Design Engineer, you'll become the technical authority across the organisation.

You'll lead the design team, collaborate directly with senior leadership, influence company-wide design standards, and play a critical role in delivering innovative renewable energy solutions that genuinely make a difference.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll take ownership of the complete technical design process, ensuring every project is delivered to the highest possible standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and mentoring a growing team of Design Engineers while maintaining exceptional technical quality.
• Taking ownership of project designs following technical sales handover.
• Working directly with architects, consultants, developers, and clients throughout the full design lifecycle.
• Producing detailed Stage 4 and Stage 5 designs for:
  • Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Solar PV Systems
  • MVHR
  • Full Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Solutions
• Carrying out detailed heat loss and heat gain calculations and room-by-room system sizing.
• Producing technical schematics, drawings, and specification documents.
• Acting as the key technical advisor to installation teams, ensuring designs are practical, efficient, and installation-ready.
• Managing design workflows, prioritising projects, and ensuring delivery against SLAs.
• Driving continuous improvement across the department through BIM implementation and process optimisation.
• Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to help shape the company's technical strategy.

We're Looking For Someone Who...

You're an experienced renewable energy design professional who enjoys taking ownership, leading from the front, and delivering technically outstanding work.

You'll ideally bring:

• Extensive experience designing renewable energy systems, particularly heat pump installations.
• A proven background working with architects, M&E consultants, developers, and commercial clients.
• Strong leadership experience with the confidence to mentor engineers and collaborate across multiple departments.
• Excellent knowledge of BIM methodologies and RIBA design stages.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, IES, EasyPV, or equivalent design software.
• A thorough understanding of UK Building Regulations and renewable energy standards.
• The ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical solutions for clients and colleagues alike.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a passion for delivering designs that eliminate costly on-site issues.
