Overview
Join a modern accounting and advisory firm as a Senior Accountant, where you will manage accounting operations and provide strategic financial insights across a diverse portfolio of clients. This role is perfect for a proactive, highly organized professional with strong GAAP knowledge who excels at owning month-end processes and communicating directly with business owners. You will act as a trusted financial partner, improving workflows and ensuring accurate, audit-ready financial records.
Schedule
- Mondays to Fridays, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (US Eastern Time), with a 1-hour unpaid break (35 hours per week, 7 hours per day)
Responsibilities
Client Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations for multiple clients
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity and proper transaction classification
- Oversee month-end and quarter-end close processes
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and adjustments
- Complete bank, credit card, payroll, loan, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including Balance Sheets, Profit & Loss Statements, Cash Flow Reports, and supporting schedules
- Identify financial discrepancies, unusual trends, and reporting issues
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and recurring financial workflows
- Ensure financial records remain organised, accurate, and audit-ready
Accounting Quality & Compliance
- Apply strong GAAP knowledge and accounting best practices
- Review accounting work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Identify and correct accounting errors or process gaps
- Support complex accounting areas, including revenue recognition, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, debt schedules, equity transactions, intercompany activity, and accrual accounting
- Maintain proper documentation for financial reporting and accounting decisions
- Ensure high-quality client deliverables
Client Communication & Advisory Support
- Act as a reliable accounting contact for assigned clients
- Communicate professionally regarding accounting questions, deadlines, and financial updates
- Translate financial information into clear insights for business owners and stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to improve client processes and reporting
- Escalate risks, issues, or opportunities when required
- Build strong client relationships through responsiveness and accuracy
Process Improvement
- Improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and close procedures
- Create and maintain accounting documentation and SOPs
- Support onboarding of new clients and financial system improvements
- Recommend improvements to internal controls and financial processes
- Use accounting technology to improve efficiency and accuracy
Requirements
- Active CPA certification/license preferred (not required)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience
- Experience with tools such as Bill.com, Gusto, ADP, Ramp, Expensify, Stripe, Shopify, HubSpot, or similar systems
- Basic knowledge of GAAP
- Strong understanding of accounting principles
- Experience managing month-end close processes
- Strong reconciliation and financial statement preparation experience
- Ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience handling confidential financial information
Highly Preferred (Not Required):
- Big 4 or national public accounting firm experience
- Previous accounting firm experience
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills
- Experience in improving accounting processes and internal controls
- Experience reviewing or mentoring junior accountants
