Job Overview
Our client is a growing accounting and bookkeeping firm based in New York, supporting a diverse and expanding portfolio of US-based clients. They are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented US Tax Bookkeeper to join their remote operations. This role is a hybrid of day-to-day general ledger accounting and specialized corporate tax support. You will serve as an independent operational anchor, maintaining pristine financial records, preparing balance sheets, and coordinating directly with the firm to ensure all accounts are perfectly prepared for tax preparation and structural audits.
Schedule
- Hours: 36 hours per week.
- Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM EST (with a 1-hour unpaid break).
- Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM EST.
- Client Timezone: US Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Responsibilities
US Ledger Architecture & Reconciliations
- Multi-Platform Management: Execute full-charge day-to-day bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of US clients utilizing QuickBooks Online/Desktop and Xero.
- Financial Reporting: Build, maintain, and audit high-integrity monthly financial records, including specialized Balance Sheets and Profit and Loss (P&L) statements.
- Document Organization: Gather, organize, code, and reconcile high-density transactional documents, bank streams, and credit card accounts.
Tax Administration & Client Liaison
- Firm Collaboration: Support accounting and tax-related administrative tasks to streamline quarterly filings and year-end close cycles.
- Direct Communication: Interface directly with firm leadership and occasionally correspond with end clients to resolve ledger bottlenecks or gather missing documentation.
- Process Compliance: Maintain organized digital records in cloud networks while strictly following internal firm deadlines, formatting standards, and workflow metrics.
Requirements
- Professional Footprint: Minimum of 3+ years of verified US accounting or tax-related bookkeeping experience.
- Educational Background: Equivalent of a US Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a closely related financial field.
- Software Mastery: Daily production-level proficiency in both QuickBooks and Xero accounting platforms.
- Communication Excellence: Superb written and spoken English communication skills, with a clear, professional presentation for direct client-facing interaction.
- Autonomy: A proven history of working independently in a remote layout, meeting accounting deadlines consistently with minimal management oversight.
Technical & Workspace Specifications
- Hardware Setup: Dual monitors are strictly required during active billing hours.
- System Metrics: Minimum of 8GB RAM paired with a minimum 2.46 GHz quad-core processor (or equivalent modern chip).
- Network Stability: Fast, reliable, high-speed internet connection backed by a professional, distraction-free home office setup.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
- Direct experience supporting US tax preparation, including initial compliance modeling for Partnerships (Form 1065) and S-Corporations (Form 1120-S).
- Fundamental understanding of complex US tax codes, including partner/shareholder basis calculations and company distributions.
- Previous tenure working inside a US-based CPA firm, public accounting practice, or client accounting services (CAS) agency.
- Comfort navigating time tracking and remote productivity monitoring dashboards.
