Job Overview
As a Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for reconciling historical financial records, maintaining accurate bookkeeping processes, and ensuring compliance with Australian GST regulations. You will work closely with the business owner to clean up approximately two years of unreconciled transactions, restructure the chart of accounts, and establish accurate financial reporting practices within Xero. This role is ideal for someone with strong Xero experience and a solid understanding of Australian GST requirements, particularly within the food manufacturing or product-based business sector.

Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Reconciliation
- Reconcile historical bank transactions across multiple lapsed periods to bring accounts fully up to date in Xero
- Perform ongoing weekly bank reconciliations and transaction categorization
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records for operational and taxation purposes
Chart of Accounts & Financial Structure
- Review and restructure the chart of accounts to properly reflect cost of goods sold and GST classifications
- Ensure financial data is categorized accurately to support reporting and compliance requirements
- Maintain consistency and accuracy across bookkeeping workflows and reporting structures
GST & Compliance
- Ensure accurate GST treatment for GST-free fresh food items and GST-applicable processed products
- Maintain bookkeeping records in accordance with Australian taxation and compliance requirements
- Help ensure all financial records remain audit-ready and properly documented
Payroll & Ongoing Support
- Support future payroll processing requirements as the business expands
- Collaborate directly with the business owner to align bookkeeping processes with operational needs
- Assist with additional bookkeeping and administrative finance tasks as required
Requirements
- Minimum of 2–5 years of bookkeeping experience
- Demonstrated proficiency with Xero accounting software, including bank feeds and reconciliation workflows
- Strong understanding of Australian GST regulations, particularly within food manufacturing or product-based businesses
- Experience setting up and maintaining charts of accounts and cost of goods sold structures
- High level of attention to detail and financial accuracy
- Strong written communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote environment
- Preferred: Experience supporting growing businesses with bookkeeping clean-up and process improvement initiatives
- Preferred: Familiarity with Australian payroll administration processes
