Job Overview
Our client is looking for a part-time remote Management Accountant to support their main manufacturing company. They already have a bookkeeper and an external accountant producing the monthly accounts, so this role is not focused on bookkeeping, statutory accounts, tax, payroll, or compliance. The role is to turn existing financial and operational data into a clear monthly management reporting pack and practical business insight. The focus is on sales, margins, job costs, departmental performance, sales stream profitability, and the operational drivers behind results. This is an analytical and commercial support role rather than an accounting-processing role.
Schedule
-
Flexible schedule, part-time (20 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
Routine / monthly activities
- Prepare a monthly management accounts pack for the main manufacturing company using internal and external financial data.
- Analyse sales, gross margin, contribution, and margin coverage by sales stream, department, job, and major work type.
- Review major job costs and identify weak-margin work, cost overruns, and unusual spending.
- Connect financial performance to operational drivers such as labour hours, labour recovery, rework, bought-out content, delays, overruns, outsourcing, and work mix.
- Produce variance analysis against budget, prior month, prior year, and forecast where available.
- Prepare concise written commentary and a short director summary highlighting key issues, risks, and recommended actions.
- Chase missing inputs or unclear data where needed to complete useful monthly reporting.
Improvement / project-based activities
- Improve the format, clarity, and consistency of the monthly reporting pack.
- Build and refine dashboards, templates, and reporting tools.
- Develop ROI case studies and business cases for decisions such as machinery investment, outsourcing vs in-house activity, time allocation, and work mix.
- Review current reporting processes and identify ways to reduce manual work and improve reporting speed and quality.
- Assess whether AI tools or off-the-shelf reporting packages could improve reporting and analysis.
- Help lay the groundwork for future weekly or daily reporting of top-level metrics.
Requirements
Experience required
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience, ideally 7+ years
- Background in management accounting, commercial finance, FP&A, or business performance analysis

Candidate profile Our client wants someone who can:
- work with imperfect SME data

- work independently and chase missing information when needed
Expected monthly outputs
- One monthly management accounts pack
- One director summary with commentary and recommendations
- One deeper-dive analysis by job, department, or sales stream
- One improvement item per month, such as a dashboard enhancement, ROI case study, or reporting/process improvement
