CLIENT OVERVIEW

The client operates a cafe and restaurant in Tasmania, Australia, established approximately three years ago. The business requires comprehensive bookkeeping support to manage ongoing operations and address outstanding compliance matters with the Australian Taxation Office.

JOB OVERVIEW

This is a full-time remote bookkeeping position supporting a hospitality business using Xero accounting software. The role involves managing day-to-day bookkeeping, payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with Australian taxation requirements including BAS and superannuation guarantee submissions. There is an initial requirement to address backlogged reconciliations and outstanding tax submissions from the past two to three years of operation.

Schedule: Mon-Fri (Times to be determined based on candidate availability) Australian Eastern Time Client Timezone: Australian Eastern Standard Time (Tasmania)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain accurate financial records and manage the general ledger using Xero accounting software
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions on a regular basis
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts, including resolving backlogged items requiring attention
  • Handle payroll processing, including superannuation guarantee calculations and submissions
  • Prepare and submit Business Activity Statements (BAS) and tax documentation to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
  • Perform catch-up bookkeeping for prior periods to ensure accounts are up to date
  • Prepare trial balances and financial reports as required
  • Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office regarding compliance matters, including superannuation guarantee shortfalls

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2–5 years of bookkeeping experience supporting Australian businesses and knowledge of Australian taxation requirements
  • Proficiency in Xero accounting software, with the ability to navigate and use the platform independently
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll processing, superannuation guarantee requirements, and BAS preparation and submission
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate financial records and identify discrepancies
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple bookkeeping tasks efficiently

NICE-TO-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with bookkeeping for hospitality or food and beverage businesses
  • Familiarity with catch-up bookkeeping and resolving historical compliance issues
  • Experience supporting businesses with bookkeeping backlogs or Australian Taxation Office (ATO) compliance matters
