Quantity Takeoff Specialist

Job Overview:

This role involves end-to-end estimation processes for remedial construction projects, from initial documentation processing through to final tender submission. The successful candidate will manage approximately 20 tender submissions per month, working with prescriptive scopes of work and partial building plans. This position requires strong technical skills in quantity surveying, document management, and coordination with subcontractors to compile comprehensive cost estimates.

Client Overview:

A Sydney-based remedial construction company specializing in repairing and upgrading existing structures. The company manages multiple concurrent projects with tight timelines, typically completing tender submissions within four-week cycles.

Schedule:

  • Mondays to Fridays, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (Australian Eastern Time, 40 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Process tender packages by organizing documentation into cloud storage and breaking down scopes into required subheadings in Word documents and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Create bills of quantities from architectural and construction plans using preferred takeoff software or methods.
  • Prepare and distribute requests for tenders to subcontractors, then review and compare returned pricing against project documentation to ensure all scope items are addressed.
  • Compile final cost estimates by layering bills of quantities with internal labor costs, subcontractor quotations, and standard rate pricing.
  • Prepare draft construction programs outlining project methodology, then package all submission components, including inclusions, exclusions, methodology descriptions, and programs into branded PDF documents for client submission.
  • Convert LiDAR point cloud data and site photographs into architectural plans and elevations to support detailed quantity takeoffs.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in construction estimating with demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural and construction plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost estimation and Microsoft Word for tender document preparation.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to cross-reference documentation and ensure all scope items are captured in estimates.
  • Experience with quantity takeoff software such as Bluebeam, Groundplan, or AutoCAD.
  • Background in remedial or refurbishment construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Australian building codes and construction standards.
  • Experience converting LiDAR or point cloud data into architectural drawings.
  • Previous experience working with Australian construction companies or clients.
