Spanish Bilingual Social Care Outreach Specialist
Overview
Join a well-established New York City nonprofit dedicated to making a tangible difference by connecting underserved Medicaid members with life-changing social services. This role goes beyond standard calling, offering you the chance to perform meaningful outreach that helps individuals across all five boroughs access essential, free programs. You will work alongside a supportive team of community outreach experts who provide comprehensive training and ongoing coaching to ensure your success. Schedule:
- 9am to 6pm Mon-Fri, 40 hours per week (Eastern Time)
Responsibilities
- Conduct outbound outreach calls to Medicaid members across New York City and Long Island to support healthcare access and member engagement.
- Conduct empathy-driven, conversational outreach to introduce free social care programs
- Complete 12-15 screening questions (SCN 1115 waiver screening) with interested participants
- Explain complex social benefit programs in simple, understandable terms to diverse populations
- Check system eligibility for enhanced needs and services
- Maintain detailed records of call outcomes and screening completions
- Participate in comprehensive training programs led by experienced senior outreach staff
- Build rapport with Medicaid members who may have limited educational backgrounds
- Focus on maximizing engagement and reducing hang-up rates through consultative approach
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of cold calling or sales experience
- Strong empathy and ability to relate to diverse, underserved populations
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex information simply
- Persistence and resilience to handle high-volume calling with frequent rejections
- Bonus if you have experience or familiarity with the nonprofit sector and social benefits systems
- It helps if you have cultural sensitivity when working with Medicaid recipients and diverse communities
- You bring the ability to work independently while following structured processes
- Fluency in Spanish and English is required
