Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper/Accounting Assistant to support the financial operations of a rapidly growing residential and commercial construction company. This role puts you at the center of financial operations, where your expertise in invoice processing, reconciliation, and reporting will directly impact business success. You’ll work closely with leadership to manage substantial transaction volumes and help streamline processes that support rapid growth.

Client Overview

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 4 hours per day, flexible within 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM New Zealand Time (NZT)

Responsibilities

  • Process and reconcile approximately 600 monthly invoices from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Code invoices accurately to appropriate accounts without requiring guidance
  • Manage financial inbox workflow and process incoming financial documents
  • Generate comprehensive financial reports using Xero accounting software
  • Handle invoice reconciliation and maintain precise financial records
  • Contact customers regarding overdue payments when necessary
  • Support general bookkeeping operations and ensure financial accuracy
  • Assist with technical finance tasks and specialized reporting requirements

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in Xero accounting software and invoice processing systems
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial coding practices
  • Ability to work independently on account coding without constant supervision
  • Experience with high-volume invoice reconciliation and financial record management
  • Strong communication skills for customer payment follow-ups
  • Reliable internet connection and professional home office setup

Qualifications / Nice-to-Have

  • Accounting degree or CPA certification (bonus)
  • Construction industry bookkeeping experience

This is a permanent work-from-home role under an Independent Contractor arrangement. Candidates must have their own computer and reliable internet connection, and are responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
