Job Overview
The client is a trusted intermodal transportation company specializing in container drayage – picking up containers from the Ports of Houston and delivering them safely and efficiently to customers throughout the Greater Houston area. We are growing and seeking a motivated and results-driven Sales Representative to help expand our customer base and secure delivery orders from brokers and direct shippers.
Role Summary
This role exists because revenue growth depends on consistently acquiring new customers
and maintaining strong relationships with existing brokers and direct shippers. You will
operate in a fast-paced, competitive environment where persistence, organization, and clear communication are critical to closing new business opportunities.
You are responsible for driving new sales, managing relationships, and ensuring smooth
coordination with operations for seamless service delivery. On a daily basis, you will make
outbound calls, develop and maintain customer relationships, negotiate rates, and ensure
that freight orders are executed efficiently – contributing directly to our growth in the
Houston intermodal market.
Core Responsibilities
1. Outbound Sales and Prospecting
● Make daily outbound calls to freight brokers and potential customers to generate new
business opportunities.
● Identify high-potential leads and develop strategies to engage them effectively.
● Research and build relationships with agents at large freight broker companies,
selling the company as the carrier to secure loads and commitments for containers.
● Maintain a consistent pipeline of prospects and opportunities.
2. Customer Relationship Management
● Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, freight forwarders, and direct
customers to secure steady freight orders.
● Cultivate relationships with companies handling shipments into Houston to ensure
timely and reliable container pickups.
● Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding sales inquiries and
service capabilities.
● Ensure customer satisfaction by understanding their needs and aligning services
accordingly.
3. Negotiation and Deal Closing
● Negotiate rates, terms, and contracts with brokers and customers in alignment with
company policies.
● Close new business opportunities while balancing profitability and customer
satisfaction.
4. Coordination with Operations and Dispatch
● Collaborate closely with operations and dispatch teams to ensure timely and
accurate execution of delivery orders.
● Communicate customer requirements and expectations clearly to internal teams.
5. Sales Activity Tracking and Market Awareness
● Maintain accurate records of sales activity, customer contacts, quotes, and deals.
● Stay informed about market trends, port operations, and competitor activities in the
Houston intermodal market.
Experience and Qualifications Required
● Proven experience in trucking, logistics, or intermodal sales, including trucking sales
brokerage (preferred).
● Strong ability to prospect for and approach brokers, and identify freight forwarders,
particularly those with shipments arriving in Houston.
● Demonstrated success in cultivating relationships with brokers, freight forwarders,
and customers to secure loads and commitments.
● Capable of high sales capacity, with the drive to expand the customer base and
significantly grow shipment volume (e.g., adding 25+ new customers).
● Strong communication and negotiation skills.
● Self-motivated, able to work independently, and consistently meet or exceed targets.
● Knowledge of the Port of Houston and local freight market is a plus.
● Proficiency with basic computer tools such as CRM, email, and spreadsheets.
