Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Accounting to support a rapidly growing company in the California cannabis industry. This role is ideal for a strategic financial leader who thrives in complex, highly regulated environments and can provide strong oversight of accounting operations while supporting business growth and long-term financial strategy.

Job Highlights

Number of Paid Hours Per Week: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Pacific Time (Sacramento, CA)
Includes a 1-hour unpaid break
Work Arrangement: Work from home
Contract: Independent Contractor

Side Note:
Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and the arrangement is that of an Independent Contractor, the selected candidate must have their own computer and reliable internet connection. They will be responsible for their own benefits and taxes. Professional fees are paid on an hourly basis and the final rate will depend on performance during the application process.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance within the complex regulatory framework of the cannabis industry

• Perform in-depth financial analysis and provide strategic insights to support key business decisions

• Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize financial processes, systems, and workflows

• Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to senior management, translating complex data into actionable insights

• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement

• Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance and competitiveness

• Drive the implementation of financial technologies to streamline operations and enhance reporting capabilities

Requirements

• CPA certification with a proven track record in accounting leadership

• Must have Xero and QuickBooks experience
  

• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a senior management role

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards, preferably within regulated industries

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills

• Demonstrated leadership experience managing and mentoring accounting teams

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders

• Proficiency with advanced accounting software and financial management tools

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, remote environment while managing multiple priorities
