HR Generalist (Part-Time)
Approximately 20 hours per week | Remote | Flexible schedule within U.S. California Time Zone

Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable, proactive, and hands-on HR Generalist to support our growing team on a part-time basis (approximately 20 hours per week). The ideal candidate will be experienced in managing day-to-day HR operations, supporting recruitment and onboarding, handling employee relations, and contributing to policy development and compliance efforts.

This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys building scalable HR processes and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. The position offers flexibility, with work hours scheduled within the U.S. California time zone.

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure company HR practices and processes align with federal, state, and local employment requirements.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and documentation.

  • Administer HR policies and recommend updates for compliance and efficiency.

  • Support payroll administration in coordination with internal teams or external providers.

  • Manage leave of absence requests (FMLA, state-specific leaves, PTO, accommodations).

  • Oversee compliance-related training requirements (harassment prevention, safety, etc.).

2. Recruitment & Hiring

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, sourcing, screening, and interview coordination.

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to clarify role requirements and selection criteria.

  • Conduct reference checks, manage background check processes, and facilitate offers.

  • Ensure a consistent, compliant, and positive hiring experience.

3. Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Manage onboarding logistics such as documentation, systems access, benefits enrollment, and orientation.

  • Develop and refine onboarding processes, including a structured playbook for U.S. full-time and offshore part-time employees.

  • Support offboarding tasks including exit interviews, documentation, and system access updates.

4. Employee Relations & Support

  • Act as a reliable resource for employee inquiries, guidance, and HR support.

  • Assist managers with performance management, coaching, and employee relations matters.

  • Help promote a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture.

  • Provide conflict resolution support with professionalism and discretion.

5. Benefits Administration

  • Assist with benefits enrollment, changes, and employee inquiries.

  • Support annual open enrollment processes and coordinate with benefits providers.

  • Maintain compliance with applicable benefits regulations (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, etc.).

6. Policy Development & HR Projects

  • Help draft, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook content.

  • Support HR initiatives such as performance review cycles, compensation updates, engagement initiatives, and culture-building activities.

  • Contribute to HR reporting, metrics, and ongoing process improvements.

 

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of HR Generalist experience, preferably in a multi-state environment.

  • Experience supporting remote or distributed teams is a plus.

  • Familiarity with HR systems and tools (e.g., TriNet, PurelyHR, payroll platforms).

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

  • High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion.

  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond proactively to team needs.

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification a plus, but not required.

Good to Have (Not Required):

  • Knowledge of U.S. employment regulations, particularly California and Minnesota employment law and compliance.
