Job Description
You’ll step into a high-impact role where your Australian tax expertise directly saves a business from compliance penalties while setting the foundation for future growth. This isn’t routine bookkeeping—you’ll be the financial rescue specialist who transforms years of backlogged records into compliant, organized systems. Working directly with the company director, you’ll have the autonomy to implement best practices while gaining exposure to multiple business entities in the property and finance sectors.
Responsibilities
- Process and reconcile seven years of backdated financial records using Xero to meet urgent ATO deadlines
- Prepare comprehensive financial documentation for Australian Tax Office compliance and payment arrangements
- Collaborate with the company’s accountant to ensure timely annual return submissions starting mid-December
- Establish organized financial workflows on a two-week cycle to support ongoing ATO submission requirements
- Set up and maintain bookkeeping processes for newly established company operations
- Reconcile personal financial records and provide additional bookkeeping support as needed
- Participate in daily progress meetings and provide regular updates on project milestones
- Ensure accurate data entry and categorization across multiple business entities
- Implement best practices for ongoing financial record maintenance and compliance
Requirements
- You bring 3-4 years of hands-on Australian bookkeeping and taxation experience with deep knowledge of ATO regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong Xero proficiency is essential, along with experience processing backdated records and financial reconciliation.
- You’re detail-oriented, communicate clearly, and can work independently while managing tight deadlines.
- Bonus if you have experience with mortgage brokering or property development industries, and it helps if you’re comfortable with daily client interactions and can work flexibly within Australian business hours.
