AU Bookkeeper (Construction Company)

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 

12-4pm NSW Time

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to support the financial operations of our construction business. The successful candidate will manage daily bookkeeping tasks, maintain accurate financial records, and assist in preparing management reports. This role is critical to ensuring our accounting records are up to date, accurate, and compliant with company and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Record day-to-day financial transactions and maintain accurate ledgers.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and supplier statements.
  • Prepare and process invoices, receipts, and expense claims.
  • Maintain job cost tracking for construction projects.
  • Support payroll processing and ensure correct allocation of labour costs.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Director to prepare cashflow forecasts and project budgets.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for audits and compliance purposes.
  • Liaise with external accountants and management when required.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of bookkeeping experience (construction or trades industry preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar accounting software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with Australian companies or familiarity with Australian accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of project-based cost tracking, job costing, and retention accounting in construction.
  • Experience with document management systems and cloud-based accounting workflows.

Reporting Structure

  • This role reports directly to the Director, who will provide guidance on company financial
  • procedures, project reporting, and workflow priorities.
