US Bookkeeper

Job Overview

Our client is looking for a dedicated and meticulous US Bookkeeper to manage the ongoing financial operations and execute a historical books cleanup from 2020 to the present. In this role, you will provide financial administration support for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training school. Your primary objective will be organizing, categorizing, and reconciling transactions—such as tuition income, fuel, and equipment repairs—to bring all statements completely up to date and ensure they are fully prepared for CPA sign-off. This position is ideal for an independent bookkeeping professional with strong diagnostic skills who excels at cleaning up messy historical accounts.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 09:00 AM - 01:00 PM CST (20 hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Manage profit and loss statements on an ongoing basis.
  • Categorize and reconcile expenses related to vehicle fuel, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Document and track tuition income received for the CDL school.
  • Maintain highly organized, accurate records of travel, meals, and other business expenses.
  • Perform forensic cleanup of historical accounts and ledgers from 2020 to the present.
  • Ensure all balance sheets and financial records are complete and ready for CPA sign-off.
  • Provide weekly status reports and updates on account categorization progress to management.

Requirements

  • Bookkeeping Experience: Proven professional bookkeeping experience with a strong track record.
  • US Accounting Standards: Deep, practical understanding of US-based business accounting practices, tax classifications, and procedures.
  • Small Business Operations: Previous experience successfully managing books and ledgers for small, independent, or family-owned businesses.
  • Software Proficiency: High level of comfort and proficiency working in standard bookkeeping and accounting software.
  • Data Precision: Meticulous attention to detail regarding transactional categorization and spotting reconciliation variances.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written English communication skills for professional reporting and pipeline updates.
